Mostly I'm just testing if I can create a thread yet or not, as it failed the first time I tried.
I saw a thread called Publishing RPGs.. it struck me that it would be a good sub-group, then I thought, hmm, we should maybe discuss which groups would be a good idea for VB to choose from.
So I'm testing the Poll attachment too..

So I'm testing the Poll attachment too.. Yup, great. It seems to be working. That's good. Thanks for testing it. As for the groups, good suggestions. I wonder if Role Playing Tips might not go under Gamemastering Topics? Or should it be a separate topic? I'd like to keep the focus of this forum towards Pro-Gamemastering and RPG Publishing topics... you know, things related to that, rather than towards Players. My understanding is that in many cases success with boards is dependent on maintaining a specific focus. Thoughts? Any other Topics people want to see?

Yeah, I think the topic should reflect gamesmastering, but maybe inside that folder you'd have Gamesmastering hints and tips, and Hints and tips to give your Players, so they experience a better RP session? That's sorta what I meant by Roleplaying topics.. Yes, it should be pretty well understood that's what we mean, but I agree, unless its specifically pointed out, it might get 'off topic' too easily

Saw a video the other day, about if we have ProGMs shouldn't we have ProPlayers.. people are watching groups of players online.. is that part of what ProGMing is about?

Saw a video the other day, about if we have ProGMs shouldn't we have ProPlayers.. people are watching groups of players online.. is that part of what ProGMing is about? I think there is definitely a case to be made for that. And frankly it's a far better model for Pro-GMing in terms of potential income. That said, it is also a harder model to set up and achieve. The first model is where the GM charges players to play. There is no audience. The games are played privately and the GM makes x amount per game based on the negotiated deal with the players. This can work and people are doing it. I've done it. It's not bad. A fun way to make some money as a GM. The model you're discussing is another one. That's were the GM and the Players form a troop, and there is an audience. The audience pays, and the proceeds get split between the GM and Players. Since a GM can only host so many players effectively, the first model is necessarily limited in how much the GM can make. In the second model the audience can be effectively unlimited when you consider live-streaming or pay-for-view video models, and so the GM and Players could make a great deal, potentially. It depends on how good they are at attracting a large audience. There are, in fact, other models as well. Such as being paid a salary to play by a Community Center or Recreation Department, Hospital, Old Age Home, etc. I've done that one as well. It's pay scale is the least of the one's I've mentioned so far, but on the other hand it is likely to be steady (ie - it does not depend on how many players show up or the size of the audience). But you should expect that Community Centers will likely not pay more than $25 / hour on this basis. To put this into perspective, the time I ran this kind of game at our Community Center I rapidly acquired 36 kids. So we don't have one model that we advocate. We have a number of possible models and we are looking to the community of GMs to try them out and report back to the membership what is working for them, as well as brainstorm on new possibilities.

So.. what your saying is we could/should have a sub group based on each of those topics,
* how to run community groups, * how to run private groups, * how to run theatre RPG/ audience groups, <- this one has quite a lot of people doing already, twitch, youtube, etc
